U.S. Coast Guard studies show that approximately 90% of all marine fires start in the engine compartment. The same studies show that only one in ten marine fires is successfully extinguished with typical dry-chemical portable fire extinguishers due to the inherent difficulties of fighting a fire manually. In addition, dry-chemical fire extinguishers leave behind a powder that can damage the engine and sensitive electronic equipment.
Since pioneering the use of Halon systems in the early 1970s, Fireboy has designed safe and effective engine room fire protection with no water or powdery residue. All systems are heat activated to discharge the clean agent gas automatically at 79°C with no operator intervention required. With a Fireboy system, the fire extinguishing agent is released much faster than any possible crew response, resulting in a faster fire-out time and less damage.

Fireboy clean agent fire extinguisher systems are designed to automatically discharge whenever the protected space ambient temperature reaches 79 degrees Celcius.
When the Fireboy System discharges, the extinguisher is designed to fully empty the contents in less than 10 seconds. No clean up is required. There is no powdery residue or water left behind. The fire is extinguished by a combination of heat reduction and chemical reaction.
Fireboy Systems are available to protect engine rooms and machinery spaces from as small as 0.7 cubic metres to as large as 85 cubic metres.
Each Fireboy pre-engineered fire extinguishing system includes stainless steel mounting brackets, helm station status LED panel and Owners/Installation manual. Backed by our 3-year limited warranty.
All Fireboy Extinguishers are factory refillable except when the discharge is the result of a fire.
